Lea Ann Roddan learned about ceramics at community studios, first at the Palos Verdes Art Center and now at The Potters' Studio in Berkeley. Her objective is to learn about the wonder and delight of pottery through private practice and public sharing. Lea Ann feels that pottery is a community where we share knowledge and work together.
It may be part of the definition of "potter" that one loves a challenge. The bigger the challenge the better. This blue glaze is one such challenge. Its delicate watery color is the motivation for surmounting the challenge. When I opened my kiln not too long ago and found 45 pieces of tableware all in this color, I was elated. It had taken six months of practice and preparation to have this success. Why?
A couple of years ago, I made some small glaze test bowls each about four inches in diameter and two inches high. There were 15 altogether, each glazed with the random glazes left over or forgotten in the back of the glaze room. Some had two glazes on them, some just one.
