About

With passion for ELEGANT SHAPES

vasuma_new_profile.jpg

Is it a push or a pull that draws me to pottery? It is more of a pull. I am drawn toward the simple, the human, the communal, the tasteful, and the useful. Pottery for me is that which fills my time and connects me to others and others to each other. Almost from the start of my working in clay, I imagined people sitting down together at table with dishes I had made.

Elegant shapes and useful items delight me. Glaze colors and decoration techniques delight me. Quite often when I touch a well-made pot or dish, it appears that it would be simple to make. This motivates me to try.

MY TEACHERS:

Roy Kunisake

John Nelson and Jan Neapolitan at the Palos Verdes Art Center

Bob Johnson at The Potters’ Studio in Berkeley, California

Sue Fisher King, who encouraged me and showed me tasteful tableware.

Roddan’s tableware is delicious. Everything looks so good on the plates and in the bowls she’s made that it’s tempting to think the food tastes better when it’s served in them, though that can’t possibly be true, can it?
— Thomas Fuller / Author, “Monsieur Ambivalence”
Whether you’re serving a moveable feast or something simple and easy, Lea Ann Roddan’s dinnerware is elegant and down to earth. There’s a really sweet look and feel to everything she makes, like it’s been made just for you.
— Sophie Ambrose
Graceful but not pretentious, lots of fun but never silly, Lea Ann Roddan’s artisanal tableware provides a gracenote to any occasion. You can pare it with just about anything.
— Christoper Webb
